Project Synopsis
This project aims to reduce the impact of animal and human health emergencies in Southeast Asia and will involve the detailed study of recent emergencies in Southeast Asia with an emphasis on the communications during the response to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
The initial stages involve analysing the communication approaches used in recent animal and human health emergencies in Southeast Asia and other parts of the world. There will be an emphasis on comparing approaches and determining the cultural and social factors that influence the approaches used in crisis communications in Southeast Asia.
The outputs of this study will be used to propose a model/theory on animal health communication, specifically a risk communication framework in animal health emergencies such as HPAI. This will be used to develop appropriate risk management plans for testing and evaluation in a limited number of practical situations.
In this stage it will be necessary to limit the project to a small number of countries that are representative of the region. The final output will be recommendations on risk communication for use in future emergencies. |
